Rabbi Anthony Knopf joined Hampstead Garden
Suburb Synagogue as the new Community Director,
at the end of March 2007 . His appointment was
unanimously approved by the Board of Management
at its meeting on 6 March 2007. We are delighted
to welcome him.
Originating from Manchester, Rabbi Knopf gained
his BA in Theology and Religious Studies from
the University of Cambridge in 2002. He then
continued his studies at HaKotel, Darche Noam
and Kol Yaakov Yeshivot in Israel. He gained
his Semicha in Israel last year from Ohr Semayach
and Kol Yaakov. Whilst this will be his first
communal position as a Rabbi, he has had some
communal experience in the community in which
he grew up and in Bnei Akiva.
Rabbi Anthony Knopf was married on Sunday 11
March 2007. His new wife, Carly, teaches Jewish
Studies at JFS and brings equally impressive
experience and enthusiasm to kehilla life. They
will be living within the Hampstead garden Suburb
community which will enable them to integrate
into the Community quickly.
In addition to assisting Rabbi Livingstone
across the range of rabbinical duties, Rabbi
Knopf's principal responsibility will be to
develop and implement new social and educational
programmes. These are intending to appeal to
the whole community and especially to younger
families. In the educational area his brief
includes the extension of our programme of traditional
learning and the introduction of new approaches,
building on the skills and experience of members
from all sections of our community. Rabbi Knopf
will add an extra dimension to our professional
team.
We believe that the appointment of Rabbi Knopf
will significantly enhance the HGSS ministerial
and professional team and help to ensure that
HGSS will continue to be a warm and welcoming
community and a centre of excellence within
Anglo-Jewry
We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Anthony and
Carla Knopf to the Community. We are sure they
will find their time in the community rewarding,
challenging and highly successful.
