Honorary Officers
 |

CHAIRMAN
|
|
Bernard
Taub:
Having been on the Board for some years
and a past honorary officer, I am interested
in maintaining the important traditions
of the Shul, whilst at the same time creating
innovations for the benefit of all our
members. I also advocate a tighter fiscal
control than is evident at present and
will help to organise a series of educational
and social events for all. I am delighted
by the number of young married members
in the shul and look forward to working
with them for the benefit of the whole
community. There is a need for forthright
strong leadership in this shul and to
co-ordinate events for the benefit of
all.

VICE
CHAIRMAN
|

Simon
Johnson:
I am 40 years old and have been a member
of the Community for over 10 years. I
coordinate the monthly Chaverim Minyan,
have been involved on various committees
and have occasionally offered a tuneless,
Mancunian accented Haphtarah. In my spare
time, I work for The FA and have been
instrumental in using the matches between
Israel and England to create better relations
between fans of both countries. I believe
that our Shul has more to do to provide
an experience for families which is warm,
welcoming and enticing and which draws
them into the life of the Shul. I would
hope that the experience of my working
life will enable me to offer leadership,
ideas and inspiration to help move the
Shul forward, so that it can genuinely
meet the needs of its varied and growing
community. I am married to Joanna, and
have three children, Ellen, Lucy &
Max.

WARDEN

Bernard
Fromson:
I
am married to Sarah and we have three
children, Sam(18), Martha(15) and Renate(13).
I have been Chairman of our Youth Committee
for 18 months and take great pleasure
in seeing the magnificent job that Chayali
and the Bogrim are doing in arranging
events for an ever increasing number of
participants. Prior to involvement in
the youth committee I took various Children's
Services in the Shul for many years.

WARDEN

David
Soto:
Born in Beersheva, then moved to Moshav
Teashur in the Negev. My Parents came
from Chile to Israel. At 12 we moved to
Kibbutz Ginegar in Emek Israel, and I
was an officer in the Paratroopers Regiment,
during my army service. Met my wife Patricia
on Kibbutz and married in 1980. On moving
to the UK, worked for the Israeli Embassy
before starting my own Security business.
We have two Daughters Davinia (12) and
Rebecca (10) who are at Immanuel and Kerem
School. I intend to participate and contribute
to all aspects of the Community life.

Jeffrey
Davidson:
Married to Alexandra, with four children.
We have been living in the community for
12 years, during this time I have been
a frequent participator in services, especially
with leining. I have been involved in
a number of projects in the shul and have
currently undertaken to revamp the shul
website. I practise as a Forensic Accountant.
Other communal activities involve charitable
and educational work, including trusteeships
of 2 schools and of Schools J-Link. I
see the Suburb community as a special
gift, which we all need to work together
to promote for the best of our multifaceted
community family, and need to cherish
and nurture it. I want to see it maximise
its resources to invest in its future
across all age groups. I have many friends
in the community from age 2 to 93 and
wish to see all ages and interests catered
for the social, educational and spiritual
needs of all members.

BOARD
OF MANAGEMENT

Alan
Cohen:
I believe that the expertise and experience
that I have accumulated from 40 years
of continuous service in various offices
in this community is still of considerable
value when discussing the range of issues
that come before the Board. Though still
very much occupied with outside business
and communal activities both within the
local and wider communities I will try
to continue, as I have in the past, to
undertake a whole range of those day to
day tasks through which the lay leadership
assists the professionals employed by
the Synagogue.

Adam
Cannon:
Married to Ellie and have 2 children,
Lottie (3½) and Jude (6 weeks).
I have been taking the youngest children
service for a couple of years and daven
in the Chaverim minyan. As our membership
is getting younger year on year, I would
like to work with the new community rabbi
to ensure a greater participation of younger
members, and . familiarise our children
with the main shul by involving them wherever
possible, such as bringing the children
services into the main shul for Adon Olam
on a shabbat morning. I am a barrister
and Group Legal Advisor at Associated
Newspapers, advising the papers what they
can and cannot print. I also chair The
Exchange; an influential young professional,
pro-Israel network made up of both Jews
and non-Jews, linked to BICOM.

Joel
Greenwood:
I am interested in promoting greater diversity
in our shul services and social and educational
activities to appeal to a wider range
of our community. My goal is to see a
substantial increase in participation
in shul life by more of our membership.
Having grown up in the Suburb, I have
been actively involved in the shul for
many years. I am married to Shoshana and
we have four children Yona (10), Amalya
(8) and Boaz (5) and a new baby girl Ashira.
Since rejoining the shul 10 years ago,
we have played an active role in shul
life. I take the children services regularly
and on the children services committee.
We set up the successful Norrice Learners
programme which gives parents and children
an opportunity to come together and learn.
I would like to promote more programmes
such as these which attract greater involvement
in shul life by more of our community.

Martin
Kaye:
His 30 year enthusiasm for our community
is almost infectious. His successes with
adult education, youth and now our new
communal programme have become part of
suburb legend. Martin feels that a new
approach to the way we involve and enthuse
all sections of our community is needed,
in particular our Hebrew Classes and Martin
feels that he is the right person both
to carry out this role and, more importantly,
enthuse others to join him. His 10 years
experience as a Shammos bear testimony
both to his service to our members and
his ability to interact with all that
comprise this wonderful community of ours.

Married to Gillian with children Danielle
(17) and David (15). I have been a warden
for the last three years and feel that
I, together with my fellow HO's, have
made a positive contribution towards the
success of our community during this time.
Previously I had been involved with the
Synagogue for several years on the Board
and in various capacities, particularly
in the building, maintenance and development
of the synagogue complex. My family and
I have had close bonds with the shul and
I feel I can contribute towards the smooth
running and continued growth of our wonderful
community.

I live close to the shul with Louise,
Sam (4½) and Zara (2½).
I served on the board last year, lein
regularly and also take Children's Services.
I am Chairman of the Religious Services
Committee and my focus for the coming
year is Adult Education which I would
like to see offering a diverse and challenging
selection of speakers and events. When
not in shul, I practise as a barrister
at One Essex Court, specialising in Commercial
law.

Alexandra
Davidson:
I grew up in the Suburb and, after a few
years in NW8, returned to the community
11 years ago and served on the Shul Board
for the past two years. With my husband
Jeffrey we have four kids - Lauren 18,
Leo 16, Olivia 13 and Hugo 10. I am a
solicitor with Berwin Leighton Paisner
where I am an employment partner. As I
have both children and parents in the
community I feel in touch with a wide
cross-section of the membership and would
like to help make the Shul an environment
where everyone has a place, and children,
youth, parents and grandparents can feel
comfortable, have their requirements recognised
and catered for, preserving the traditions
while embracing new ideas.

for 9½ years, during which time
I have been an actively involved Board
member, organising social and cultural
events (as Chairman of the Social Committee)
which include communal dinners, supper
quizzes, art lectures, running the Book
Circle, etc.My aim is to continue to work
for the benefit of the whole community,
especially supporting communal and educational
activities.

Caroline
Foley-Comer:
I have been a member of the shul since
I married Adam in 1993. We have three
children, Joshua, Arieh and Eliora, who
attend Kerem schools. We all enjoy being
a part of this great community and regularly
attend the main service, Chaverim minyan
and children's services. I am positive
in my thinking and communal in my approach.
I believe that I have genuine and positive
energy towards people and I hope to combine
this with my understanding of the community
to focus on supporting women and mothers
in the community. There are still some
sections of the community that remain
marginalized. This is a large community
and shul should be an inclusive environment,
I would like to support an outreach approach
to help this community grow and go from
strength to strength in the future.

board of management for the last year

educational events and various social
activities. I would like to continue my
position on the board as I feel that I
make a positive contribution.

I am married to Andy, and we have three
small children. I was a member of the
board for two years. Last year, despite
not standing for the board, I remained
involved in various other activities for
the shul. We take the children's services
on a regular basis. I serve on the Services
committee and am involved in facilities
for women and for young families. I would
like to continue this involvement and
develop more programmes and events to
include the whole community.

Taub:
I have been a member of Norrice Lea for
over 40 years. During that time I have
seen the community grow not only in size,
but also in vibrancy. I believe fervently
in creating a warm, welcoming and inclusive
atmosphere. While being traditionalist
in outlook, I welcome many of the new
innovations that so many of us enjoy.
I am committed to working with both the
lay and spiritual leaders of our wonderful
community in a spirit of harmony, mutual
respect and dignity.
