The Man Who Loved Haugesund - Moritz Rabinowitz,
This 60 minute film, The Man Who Loved Haugesund
is a documentary about the Polish Jew Moritz Rabinowitz,
who came to Haugesund in 1911 and built a clothing empire
from nothing. Regardless of his efforts and success, he
remained an outsider in town.
Prior to WW II, he was an outspoken
fighter against nazism and was the first person the Germans
wanted to arrest after the occupation of Norway. After a
dramatic escape he was finally arrested and deported in
December 1940. Rabinowitz died in German captivity in 1942.
